Abstract

Background : Cancer is still a problem, especially in Indonesia, because the handling is not maximized where the drugs currently available are less effective and selective, in addition to killing cancer cells can also kill normal cells, and the results are less than the maximum, in addition to the severe side effects that patients reluctant to seek treatment. Plant Cayratia trifolia L (Domin) is one of the alternatives for cancer prevention because it contains an active compound delphinidin / malvidin, resveratrol and quercetin can modulate cellular immune system through the activation of lymphocytes and macrophages Thelper as IFN-- producing cells. Objective : Explain the effect of ethanol extracts of plants Cayratia trifolia L (Domin) of the cellular immune system modulation through an increase in the number of cells producing IFN- and CD14 pengekspresi cells in the rat model of cancer. Methods : The study was a purely experimental research laboratories (True Experimental) with a randomized study design Post Test Only Control Group Design. A total of 30 female white rats of SD strain age 30-40 days, weight 100- 150 grams, then 22 rats made models of breast cancer by inducing carcinogen DMBA. Then the samples were randomly allocated into 3 groups: normal rats (K0), groups of rat cancer models (K1) and the group of rat given the extract models of cancer later Cayratia trifolia dose of 300 mg / kg for 28 days. The unit of analysis is the spleen tissue of all mice, further examination single Immunohistochemistry using monoclonal antibodies stain with anti- Rat IFN- and Anti-Rat CD14. Results : The results showed that there is an influence of ethanol extract Cayratia trifolia L (Domin) to increase the number of cells producing IFN- and CD14 expressed cells. Based on the statistical analysis of the results of the Manovashowed meaningful (significant) between groups with K1 and K0 KP (p <0.05), and has a strong and significant correlation between the increase in the number of IFN--producing cells with CD14 expressed cells (p <0, 01). Conclusion : Based on the analysis of the results of research conducted, it can be concluded that there are effects of the extract Cayratia trifolia L (Domin) to increase Thelper Lymphocytes and Macrophages by an increase in the number of cells producing IFN- and CD14 expressed cell count.
