Abstract

Existence of street children at school-age nowdays emerges as phenomenom. Many studies reveal that positive development and learning are required a motivation as powerful “engine”. Street children at school-age risk for delayed developmental process such as physic, cognitive, social, spiritual, and emotion. Furthermore the important things that should be established is motivation among street children then perform learning activities. Street children life such as their workload and characteristics can relate their learning activities. Method: The goal of this study is to identify correlation between street children life and motivation to learn at school-age in Rumah Pintar Matahari Surabaya. This study design used a correlational descriptive. Populations were street children in Rumah Pintar Matahari Surabaya. There were 23 respondents who participated in this study. The sample were chosen by using simple random sampling method. Independent variable was street children life and dependent variable was motivation to learn at school age. Data were collected by using two questionnaire, street children life and motivation to learn questionnaire. This study was analyzed by using Spearman rho with significant level of α < 0,05. Results: The result showed that 60,9% street children had moderate life and there were 87% street children had sufficient motivation to learn. Statistical test showed p= 0,001 and r= 0,636. It was interpretated that street children life had a strong and significant correlation with motivation to learn at school-age. Discussion: It can be implied that street children life correlated with motivation to learn. It is recommended for following researcher to expand coverage area of street children to explore characteristics street children life.
