Abstract

Carbofuran was one of widely used carbamate insecticide on field corps and highest acute toxicities to humans or non-target animals among any insecticide. The aim of this study was assessed the effect of curcumin or vitamin C on the influence of histopathological changes in heart of neonates mice exposed to subacute concentrations of carbofuran through translactation for 4 consecutive days after each interval of 24 hours. Neonates were obtained from lactating dams that were exposed to carbofuran 0.0208 mg/kg body weight (K+), 0.0417 mg/kgBW (K++), exposed to carbofuran than treated by curcumin 150 mg (P1 and P2), exposed to carbofuran than treated by vitamin C 150 mg (CP1 and CP2) and from naïve control dams received physiological saline solution (K-), respectively the neonates heart were collected on the sixth day after treatment. Each heart specimen was processed and stained using H&E staining. The histopathological changes were graded on a semi-qualitative scale. Grading data of histopathological cardiotoxicity were analyzed with Kruskal Wallis test followed by Mann-Whitney test. The result of the research was carbofuraninduced neonates mice showed a moderate histopathological changes in heart in group K+ and K++ as compared to the control K- group. However, no changes were observed among the treatment groups (P1, P2, CP1 and CP2) compared with the control group (K-). In conclusion, the research demonstrated that histopathological changes due to carbofuran-induced (0.0417 mg/kgBW) could not be treated effectively by 150 mg dose of curcumin or vitamin C on the target organ.
