Abstract

This study was made to know the histopathological changes of liver in broiler chicken that infected by L2 Toxocara vitulorum as a paratenic host and its potential zoonotic risk by consuming infected chicken. The study used 28 chickens aged 14 days, experimentally inoculated with 3000 embryonated eggs of Toxocara vitulorum, was examined 1, 2, 3, 7, 14 and 21 days post-infection (dpi). The duodenum, liver, lungs, heart and muscles of the chickens were trypsin digested for larval recovery. Experimental chickens exhibited hemorrhages in the liver, lungs and kidneys on all day post infections (dpi). Remains of larvae were present in the liver on 21 dpi. Pathologic findings showed that larvae migrated in different organs of chickens. Histopatological observed was hydropic degeneration, necrosis hepatocyte, portal inflammation and cholangitis were analyzed by Kruskal wallis test indicates that there are significant differences (P<0,05), the further test result by using Z test. The result showed that L2 Toxocara vitulorum could cause damage in paratenic host’s liver.
