Abstract
Incidence of allergy in children increases along with the effect of allergen
exposures and environment. Allergy mostly appears on children at age under five
year old due to lack of immunity. Allergy is an important problem because of its
effect on development. There are factors which can affect the incidence of allergy,
one of them is exclusive breastfeeding. The purpose of this study was to analyze
the correlation between allergic manifestation with exclusive breastfeeding
history on under five children.
This was analytic observational and cross sectional study. The location was
RSUD Dr. Sosodoro Djatikoesoemo Bojonegoro. The samples were children at
age 2-60 months. This study used consecutive sampling method and the tool was
an interview questionaire. Chi-square was used to analyze the variables.
There were 102 children in the study and 34 (33%) among them were
allergic. Children aged >6 months with exclusive breastfeeding history were only
45.1% (41 children). There was a significant correlation between exclusive
breastfeeding and allergic manifestation (coefficient contingency=0.487). The
Prevalent Ratio (PR) was 0.084(CI 95% 0.021-0.0332).There was also significant
correlation between family history and allergic manifestation with p=0.005 and
PR= 2,407 (CI 95% 1,430-4,052).
The conclusion of the study was there was significant correlation between
allergic manifestation and exclusive breastfeeding history on under five children,
with exclusive breastfeeding as a protective factor of allergic manifestation, and
also there was correlation between familly history of allergy with allergic
manifestation.
