Abstract

Hypertension is a major health problem in developing and developed countries, and its increasing epidemy is a serious warning to take more attention to this silent disease. Compliance to hypertension management in patients with hypertension is known to influence their blood pressure control. This study was aimed to determine the factors of compliance to hypertension medication based on Theory of Lawrence Green. A cross-sectional study was conducted at Gayungan Community Health Centre in Surabaya on May 2016. This study was carried out using a validated questionnaire. The questionnaire included information on demographic characteristics, knowledge of patients with hypertension, attitude of patients with hypertension, health facility at Gayungan Community Health Centre, behavior of Pharmacist and Pharmacy Technician at Gayungan Community Health Centre and compliance to hypertension medication. Data were analyzed with SPSS version 21 and P < 0.05 was considered as statistically significant. Based on analysis correlation factors that significantly influence were knowledge of patients with hypertension (P = 0.036), attitude of patients with hypertension (P = 0.000), health facility at Gayungan Community Health Centre (P = 0.022), behavior of Pharmacist and Pharmacy Technician at Gayungan Community Health Centre (P = 0.039). This study is revealed that attitude of patients with hypertension (r = 0.473) is the strongest factors that influence compliance behavioral of antihypertensive use in patients with hypertension.
