Abstract

SIA is the detering factor that cause unoptimal visual acuity after cataract surgery even when there were no complications during surgery. SIA is related to wound size, type of incision, location, and architecture of incision. The SIA value is obtained from the calculation of the corneal astigmatism before and after cataract surgery using vector analysis method. Purpose : to compare SIA after phacoemulsification surgery between superior near clear corneal incision and temporal near clear corneal incision. Materials and Methods: in 18 eyes with senile cataract, phacoemulsification surgery was performed. The patients were randomly divided into two groups, superior and temporal group with random sampling. Corneal astigmatism was measured objectively by autorefractokeratometry before surgery and 1 day and 7 day after surgery. Results : At 1 day after surgery 66,6 % patients had with corneal edema in both groups. The SIA in 1 day after surgery in superior group was 1.12  0.80 diopter and temporal group was 0.95  0.25 diopter. There were no significant difference between superior and temporal groups with p= 0.89 (p>0.05). At 7 day after surgery, there was no edema corneal in temporal group. The SIA in 7 day after surgery in superior group was 1.49  0.78 diopter and temporal group was 0.75  0.33 diopter. The SIA in 7 day after surgery was significantly different between two groups with p=0.02 (p<0.05). Conclusion : The temporal near clear corneal incision induced less SIA than superior near clear corneal incision after 7 days post operative
