Abstract

Artocarpus heterophyllus Lmk. has a close relations in chemotaxonomy and biotaxonomy with Artocarpus champeden Spreng. which have been proved as antimalarial drug. Therefore, ethanol 8094 extract of A. heterophyllus LmL slem bark and leaves used to study antimalaial activity. This study used Peter's test (fhe 4-Day suppresive test of blood schizontocida aclion) in vivo model. Plant extract suspended in 0.594 CMC-Na was divided into 4 doses; 100, 10, I and 0,1 mg/kg body weight; administered orally to male mice daily Blood was taken y)ere counted. from tail for for four days started from day after the infection. seven days and then stained with Giemsa, and parasitised red cells The research revealed lhat ertracl of Artocdrpus helerophyllus Lmk. was active to inhibit Plasmodium berghei with ED5nof 8}%o-ethanol stem bark extract was 10,j5 mg/kg body weight and leaves exlract was 8,33 mg/kg body weight.
