Abstract

This journal is written in order to analyze and identify the issue of female’s dominance in the representation of the main female character in “Zero Dark Thirty” movie. Woman liberation concerns about the equality of sexes between male and female without being attached by the conception of gender. The woman representation particularly in hollywood movies in which the main character is female is still always seen as inferior towards patriarchy, because it tends to objectify the woman as a visual pleasure. In analyzing this movie, the writer applies qualitative method using the theory of liberal feminism and narrative and non narrative aspects to assist the writer for identifying and analyzing the problem of the issue. In this movie, the portrayal of ‘Maya’ the main female character is unconventional compared to another action movies in which the main character is female. Maya appears femininely, eventhough she is adapting masculinity traits in terms of behavior in order to be said as equal or liberate in patriarchal environment of CIA. The writer finds out that this movie tries to break the argument that when female is characterized with masculine traits such as being, dominant, aggressive, and superior does not mean that female is seen as inferior or masculinized. However, it is a matter of freedom expression and perspective of each humans. Keywords Female Investigator, Liberal Feminism, Patriarchy, Masculinized
