Abstract
Introduction: Many elderly woman who experience neglect in Ampenan Public Health Center Working Area. Neglect which is experienced by elderly woman, can be triggered by individual or family inability to fill elderly needs independently. One of main contributor in this case is lack understanding on neglect among elderly. Purpose: This study aimed to explain correlation between family knowledge on caring elderly woman with neglect among elderly in Ampenan Public Health Center Area Mataram City. Method: The design of this study was analytic descriptive with Cross sectional collecting data method. Population in this study were all families who had elderly woman on family member. Therefore, the sample of this study were 34 sample size of family with purposive sampling technique. Independent variable in this study was knowledge on caring elderly and dependent variable was neglect among elderly. Family knowledge were collected by using questionnaire based on Elder Abuse Instrument component checklist with 10 questions and neglect among elderly used translated language checklist based on Elder Abuse Instrument with 13 items. Data were analyzed by using Spearman’s rho with α ≤ 0,05. Result: Spearman’s rho statistic test showed value p= 0,000 with r= 0,643, it mean family low knowledge on caring elderly woman correlate with neglect among elderly. Discussion: Family low knowledge on caring elderly cause someone to neglect elderly in Ampenan Public Health Center Mataram City. This study suggests that Ampenan Public Health Center, especially Eledrly Division can to increase family knowledge on giving treatment at home and the further research can arrange new research relate to elderly protection done by health worker
