Abstract

Background: Gingivitis is a gingiva inflamation which only cover gingiva tissue around the tooth. In microscopic, gingivitis marked by the existance of eksudat inflamation and edema, a damage collagen fibers happened ulceration, epitheliun proliferation from the surface of the tooth to attached gingiva. Gingival Index used for evaluate severity level and gingiva inflamation quantity from patient. This Index used for gingivitis are the tooth 16, 12, 24, 36, 32, 44. Analyzing with GI only use for the gingiva tissue. According to the data from Riset Kesehatan Dasar showed that consist an increasing problem of tooth and mouth from the year of 2007 until 2013, that is 23,2% increased to 25,9%. In East Java also experienced an increasing problem of tooth and mouth from 20,3% in the year of 2007 and increase to be 28,6% in the year of 2013. Gingivitis prevalence in Indonesia is second place which is 96,58%. Purpose: To study the severity of gingivitis of patients in Poli Gigi of Puskesmas Mojo, Gubeng, Surabaya, in 2016. Method: Descriptive observasional study with cross-sectional random sampling method using Gingival Index. Result: From 100 sample, got 28% suffered mild gingivitis, 71% suffered moderate gingivitis, and 1% suffered severe gingivitis. Conclusion: 71% from 100% research subjects suffered moderate gingivitis in the Gingival Index score cathegory. Keywords: Gingivitis, Gingival Bleeding, Gingival Index
