Abstract

The purpose of this research study was to know the presence of Salmonella sp. contamination on beef of cattle slaughtered at Pegirian Abattoir in Surabaya. Totally 12 beef samples of musculus femoralis were bought from Pegirian Abattoir in Surabaya. The bacteriological isolation and identification of Salmonella sp. was determined by inoculation on pre-enrichment and enrichment media using Tetrathionate broth, followed by biochemically in TSIA and Urea. The result showed that Salmonella sp. could be detected in all beef samples (100%) of cattle slaughtered at Pegirian Abattoir in Surabaya.
