Abstract

This study is to identify and analyze how the concept of imperialism is portrayed in Pacific Rim Film (2013). This study is conducted based on Imperialism theory by Johan Galtung, which focuses on United States of America. This study identifies several frames of scenes in the movie which focus on the story and characters to identify and investigate how the imperialism is portrayed in this film. Using qualitative method of film studies, the writer identified the aspects of narrative reading by Rachmah Ida and and non-narrative one of Louise Giannetti including camera shoots, camera angle, make-up and costume. This study found that Johan Galtung types of imperialism, pacification and dominance exist in the film, in the form of economy, political, military, communication, and cultural.
