Abstract

Elementary school age children are right to implement the health improvement programs. They are the age group to have disease risk. There are many diseases cause by bad healthy behavior like Thypoid, Diarrhea and Dengue. The clean and healthy behavior be able to prevent diseases, to improve health status and to create healthy environment. Students must be take part to improve clean and healthy community especially on school. They are need to get health education to improve the clean and healthy behaviors. The aim of this study was to analyze the effect of Peer Education learning methods carried out by UKS associates to improving knowledge, attitudes and practices of students. Methods: Design of this study was quasy experiment. The target population was all elemantary school students in Kwanyar and accesible population was students elementary school of Karang Anyar 1 and Karang Anyar 2 (262 students). The sampling was total sampling and sample was fifth grader school (48 students). Independent variables was peer Education methods. The dependent variable were knowledge, attitude and practice. Data were collected using questionnaires and analyzed by the Wilcoxon signed rank test and the Mann Whitney U test on significance value α = 0.05. Result: Result showed that Peer Education methods influence the knowledge (p = 0.000), attitude (p = 0.000) and practice (p = 0.000). Lecture methods influence the knowledge (p = 0.000), attitude (p = 0.000) and practice (p = 0.000). This study was also show the difference in mean Peer Education methods with a lecture methods to the student’s knowledge (p = 0.000), Practices (p = 0.003) and attitude (p = 0.000). Conclusion: The conclude of this study was Peer Education methods influence to knowledge, attitudes, practice students and that method more effective than lecture method to improve healthy behavior. This study can be use to improve health promotion on school with Health service, health education and health school environment for nursing. The next research expected was should be to get more supervision of the facilitators so they are more serious for receiving information
