Abstract

This study strives to portray the fantasy of The Penderwicks’ characters written by Jeanne Birdsall by using Todorov’s Structuralism. The method used to collect the data on the fantasy of The Penderwicks’ characters includes novel’s content observation, data classification through tabulation system, and data determination for analysis through the selecting criteria. Then, the writer uses descriptive qualitative method for data analysis because the data themselves are qualitative in the focus of quotations of the text. The data analysis is carried out based on Todorov’s theory. The results are the desire and curiosity of the characters in the novel reveal the fantastic element of the novel.
