Abstract

Microencapsulation is defined as a process in which the active ingredient is encapsulated with matrix by forming a thin film surrounding the active ingredient. The microencapsulation processes produce small particles ranging in size from 1 to 1000 μm that can provide physical barrier against adverse environmental conditions. Lactobacillus casei is used as an active ingredient which will be made into microparticles by spray drying method with 120 °C inlet temperature using methacrylic acid copolymer L type as polymer matrix which can provide protection in the stomach and released the active ingredient in intestine. The effect of methacrylic acid copolymer L type concentration on Lactobacillus casei release from microparticle determined by using three formula with 0,5%; 0,75%; and 1,50% concentration of methacrylic acid copolymer L type. Release efficiency test were performed in all formula. The result showed that release efficiency of Lactobacillus casei in microparticle probiotic decrease with increasing methacrylic acid copolymer L type concentration.
