Abstract

Background. The three most common gynaecologic cancers in Indonesia are cervical cancer, ovary cancer, and endometrial cancer. The prevalence of endometrial cancer has increased over the time period, so does the number of death from endometrial cancer. There are several risk factors that are associated with endometrial cancer. Aim. The purpose of this study was to determine risk factors that are associated with endometrial cancer prevalence in Poli Onkologi Satu Atap (POSA) RSUD Dr. Soetomo. Methods. This research was based on analytical observational study with case control design. Data were retrieved from medical records and interviews of out patients who visited Poli Onkologi Satu Atap (POSA) RSUD Dr Soetomo Surabaya by accidental sampling technique. Data obtained was then analyzed by using Chi-square test. Results. There were 66 samples included in this study. They consisted of 33 test samples and 33 control samples. Endometrial cancer patients were mostly 51- 60 years old (36.4%), 17 patients (51.5%) had body mass index above normal, 5 patients (15.2%) suffered from diabetes mellitus, 17 patients (51.6%) had given birth more than once, 6 patients consumed hormonal contraception for more than a year. Based on Chi-square test results (CI=95%), there were significant association between parity (p=0.01, OR=6.824), Body Mass Index (p=0.044, OR=2.833), type 2 diabetes mellitus (p=0.020), and hormonal contraception (p=0.001, OR=5.333) with endometrial cancer. Conclusion. In conclusion, this study shows that there are significant association between parity, body mass index, type 2 diabetes mellitus, hormonal contraception and endometrial cancer prevalence in Poli Onkologi Satu Atap (POSA) RSUD Dr Soetomo Surabaya
