Abstract

Indonesia is a third ranked country with the largest number of smokers in the world after China and India (WHO, 2008). Nicotine in cigarettes make smokers are particularly difficult to eliminate adolescent smoking habit. (Hans, 2003). Smoking habits may be one of the factors that encourage ado-lescent to consume alcohol. Smoking is also the first gate of various other addictive behaviors, some examples are drinking alcohol and the other addictive drugs (NAPZA) (R.Fleming, Leventhal, Glynn & Ershler 1989). The number of teen smokers is still increasing, regarding Tuban district area as one of the largest “Nira” producer in East Java, the potential of alcohol consumption in adolescents is higher. This type of research used in this study was observational with cross sectional. The sampling technique is determined by multistage cluster random sampling. Researchers distributed a questionnaire to all 12 members of the class in order to obtain the sample of 245 people. Researchers conducted a chi – square test in order to determine the relationship between smoking and alcohol consumption. The chi-squared test obtained for significantly less than the alpha value of 0.05, supported by probability values (P - Value) 0.000. It means there is a correlation between smoking and alcohol drinking behavior in sub istrict Plumpang, distric Tuban
