Abstract

Introduction: Ocular Trauma is caused by a direct physical contact on the eye. The purpose of this study was to understand the general description of the characteristic and distribution of ocular trauma patients in Dr. Sutomo general hospital emergency unit throughout 2014. Methods: This research described retrospective aspect of ocular trauma. The inclusion criterion of this study was patient’s medical record. Total sampling of the whole year in 2014 was considered adequate to provide data for this study. The variables of this research are sex, age, occupation, location of trauma occurrence, type of ocular trauma, and which eye(s) was involved. Results: 644 patients met the inclusion criteria. Based on sex, men are most often involved in ocular trauma by 80% patients. The majority of patients are 15 to 40 years of age at 58%. Work labor most commonly involved with ocular trauma at 24%. The location of most frequently occurred was workplace in which 33% of the patients are involved. Adnexal with palpebral ocular trauma has the highest number of occurrence at 26%. Unilateral ocular trauma was frequently found as many as 80%. Conclusion: Male patients and aged 15 to 40 years are most often experienced ocular trauma. Based on patient’s occupation, work labor mostly had ocular trauma compared with other occupations. Workplace has the highest number of ocular trauma events. Adnexal with palpebral trauma has the highest rate of occurrence. Unilateral ocular trauma was commonly found in this study.
