Abstract
Introduction: Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common endocrine disorder in women of reproductive age that is affected by hormonal disturbance and influencing general health especially reproductive system. The reason that cause patients come to see the doctor were menstrual disturbance, infertility, hirsutism, obese, acne, and other complications. The polycystic ovary syndrome is also related to the other metabolic disturbances, such as hyperinsulinemia (insulin resistance), hypercholesterolemia, and obesity. Definition of PCOS which is used by dr. Soetomo General Hospital Surabaya for diagnosing is the result of conference that sponsored by European Society for Reproduction and Embryologi (ESHRE) and American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) in Rotterdam (2003) which concludes that diagnosed of PCOS is based on 2 from 3 major criteria; 1) Oligo or Anovulation 2) Clinical Sign of Hyperandrogenism, and 3) Ovarium Polycystic (which will be identified by Ultrasonography) (Mose JC,2001) Methods: The study had been analyzed with descriptive method using secondary data from medic records on patient that fulfilled inclusion criteria in Fertility Section in dr. Soetomo General Hospital during period July 2011 till July 2016 as a source. The variable that was used in this research were age, BMI, chief complaint, parity, and treatment which was given. Result: This study found that from 32 patients of polycystic ovary syndrome, the age group was dominated by 21 – 30 years old (59.38%). Most of the patients had BMI count between 30 – 35 kg/m2 or classified as Obesity type I (31.25%). The chief complaint was dominated by group with menstrual disturbance (81.25%). The parity was dominated by group with infertility (75%). And most of the patients was treated by giving drugs (87.25%). Conclusion: Most of the Polycystic Ovary Syndrome patients in Fertility Section dr. Soetomo General Hospital in the periods of July 2011 till July 2016 are 21 – 30 years old, having BMI count between 30 – 35 kg/m2 (Obesity type I), coming with menstrual disturbances, infertility, and threated by giving drugs.
