Abstract

Background: Anterior cross bite is defined as the condition where the maxillary anterior teeth located more to the palate than the mandibular teeth. This malocclusion mainly occur in children with persistency of anterior primary teeth. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to report case of Angle class 1 malocclusion accompanied with anterior cross bite on 9 years old boy and the treatment management of this case. Case: A boy aged 9 years old came to Dental Hospital of Airlangga University at the department of orthodontic, diagnosed with class 1 malocclusion accompanied with anterior cross bite between tooth 11 with 41 and 42. Clinical examination found the overjet of 11 was -2 mm, however overjet of 22 is 2 mm (normal). Overbite of 11 was 3 mm and 21 was 1 mm. Free way space was 2 mm (normal), upper arch discrepancy of more than 0.12 mm and lower arch discrepancy of less than -0.34 mm, the curve of spee was positive 1.5 mm, radiographic examination didn’t find any anomaly of tooth germ and teeth was in mixed dentition phase. Case management: The treatment used of removable orthodontic appliance on maxillary teeth with elevation bite at posterior teeth and double cantilever springs at reverse bite teeth, activated once every three weeks. Elevation bite at posterior teeth should be removed when the teeth reached edge to edge position. There was no extraction of permanent tooth in this case. Conclusion: Case of Angle class 1 malocclusion with anterior cross bite can be corrected using simple removable orthodontic appliance which consist of double cantilever springs, adams claps and posterior bite plate.
