Abstract

Background. HEMA is the most popular dentin bonding material. HEMA is capable of forming a covalent bond with dentin collagen amine. HEMA disadvantage that is, absorbing and storing water that interfere with polymerization and weaken the bond to dentin. Other materials used as dentin bonding is 4 MET. 4 MET excellence that is capable of forming a chemical bond with the hydroxyapatite formed Ca4MET simultaneously bind to collagen dentin. Moreover, the nature of the aromatic group 4-MET is able to reduce the carbonyl group hydrophylocity so that polymerization occurs can run well. Purpose. This study was to determine differences in shear strength of one bottle self-etch adhesive that contains 4-MET and HEMA. Methods. bovine incisors are cut to get a dentin segment. Dentin implanted in the insulin spads then stored in a room with a humidity of 70%. Samples were divided into two groups, namely the bonded material 4 MET and HEMA. Each sample is placed on a sliding plunger and shear strength test by means of autographs. Results. There were significant differences shear strength of dentin bonding material 4 MET and HEMA. Conclusions. Shear strength of one bottle self etch adhesive containing 4 MET greater than HEMA.
