Abstract
Basic life support is a basis to saves the patient’s life from cardiac arrest. Fundametal aspect from this basic life support are the direct handling of the cardiac arrest and activating the emergency system also the cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Early handling and response to cardiac arrest and stroke could be included as a part of basic life support. This study was conducted to analyze the knowledge of paramedic staff to the basic life support, in favor of there is an emergency patient related to cardiac arrest. This research uses the combination between questionnaire and practical skills evaluation to 62 samples of nurse and midwife in Universitas Airlangga Hospital. The data obtained is analyzed using the chi-square and independent samples test to check the significance of the data. The data itself was passing through the validity and reliability test from the observational and cross sectional approach. Results: the average score of 62 samples from questionnaire and skills evaluation were classified into several grades. There is no samples getting poor criteria (0%), 39% of the sample getting medium criteria, and 61% of the sample earning good criteria. More, there is no significance difference (p>0.005) in the sample based on the gender, educational status, and the previous basic life support training. There is a significance difference (p=0.001) in the sample based on the workplace. For further research, there might be an improvement in educational status and paramedic distribution to make sure that the paramedic staff of Universitas Airlangga Hospital could help the emergency patient by basic life support best.
