Abstract

Introduction: Autism is a disorder which is characterized by an inability to interact with others, language disorders such as echolalia (mimicry), mutism (silence, inability to speak), repetitive and stereotyped play activities, and an obsessive desire to maintain order in in its environment, fear of change, poor eye contact, and more likes images and inanimate objects. Methods: This study used descriptive observational research with cross sectional design to find out the demographic factors of autism children in day care RSUD Dr. Soetomo Surabaya. Demographic factors that studied were the distribution of residence, sex, age, and socio-economic. Result: Out of 30 autism children, 15 patients were resident in urban area, while 15 other patients reside in seashore, market area, factory / industrial area, and railway area. Characteristics of the sex of child autism patient at most are male that is 25 children. Moreover, there were 24 children from 30 patient of autism children were in the age of 0-4 years old. Then the socio-economic characteristic of family of child autism patient mostly is coming from Prosperous Sejahtera III that is 12 family which based on BKKBN indicator. Conclusion: It can be concluded that the possibility of residence, sex, age, and socio-economic factors affects the incidence of childhood autism.
