Abstract

Background: In the last three years, the number of cases of AIDS in the world amounted to 35,3 million in 2013 to 36,9 million in 2014 and declined slightly to 36,7 million in 2015 (UNAIDS, 2016). Number of new HIV-infected patients admitted to UPIPI RSUD Dr. Soetomo Surabaya in 2014 was 1,137 patients, and slightly decreased in 2015 to 1,038 patients. Dr. Soetomo Hospital Surabaya is a tertiary referral center for hospitals in eastern Indonesia. The profile of HIV patients in the hospital needs to be assessed to get an overview of the demographic factors in HIV. Specifically, this study examined the profile of outpatient HIV patients in UPIPI RSUD Dr.Soetomo. Hopefully better service planning and preventive measures against HIV infection in the wider community can be maximized. Objectives: The aim of this study was to determine demographic factors and clinical stages based on WHO of HIV patients. Method: The method used in this research was a retrospective research method using observational by cross sectional approach. The population in this study was patients who have taken ART in February 2017 at Poli Rawat Jalan UPIPI Dr. Soetomo General Hospital Surabaya. The sample size was 130. The instrument of research was secondary data in the form of medical records. Results: The result of the research showed that the sociodemographic factors of outpatient HIV patients in UPIPI RSUD Dr. Soetomo Surabaya was the most commonly male (58.5%), most age group consisted of 30-39 years old (48.5%), most residences were in Surabaya (63.07%), Wonokromo and Sawahan have the most prevalent cases of HIV/AIDS, the highes level of education was dominated by senior high school level (43.1%), and private employment with the largest proportion of 31.5%.
