Abstract

Introduction: Azoospermia is one of the causes of male infertility. Azoospermia refers to a condition that there is no sperm in semen. It can be classified into two categories, obstructive azoospermia (OA) and non-obstructive azoospermia (NOA). In Surabaya, especially in Dr. Soetomo General Hospital, there has been no description of the incidence of azoospermia in 2016. Purpose: To evaluate the incidence of azoospermia at Andrology Clinic of Dr. Soetomo General Hospital from January 2016 – December 2016. Method: This is a descriptive retrospective study and was performed by evaluating medical record of azoospermic patients. The variables observed were basic data (age, domicile, occupation, BMI), anamnesis data (duration of infertility, illness history, habit (smoking habit)), and the diagnosis of type of azoospermia (OA or NOA). Result: There were 30 research subjects for one year. Most age groups were 31-40 years old, 18 patients (60%), 21-30 were 9 patients (30%) and >40 were 3 patients (10%). Most of domicile were patients from East Java besides Surabaya as many as 18 patients (60%). Most of occupation of were private employees as many as 11 patients (36,7%). 14 patients (46,7%) were overweight (BMI: 25-29.9). Most patients (46,7%) had less than 5 years of duration of infertility. Most patients (13%) had trauma but 19 patients (53%) didn’t have any illness in the past. 18 patients (60%) were a smoker. The proportion of OA and NOA was same, it was 50:50. Conclusion: The incidence rate of azoospermia at Andrology Clinic of Dr. Soetomo General Hospital from January 2016 – December 2016 was 30 people, mostly in age 31-40 years old, originated from East Java besides Surabaya, were private employees and overweight. Most duration of infertility was less than 5 years. Mostly had trauma in the past and were a smoker. The proportion of OA and NOA was same
