Abstract

Background: Photodynamic is a treatment modality that does not cause resistance and potentially to eliminate the growth of bacterial colonies. Chlorophyll can be used as a photosensitizer agent to increase the absorption of light on photodynamic method. Purpose: This study aimed to determine the potential photodynamic inactivation therapy to inactivate resistance endodontic bacterium. Method: This study used E. faecalis, diode laser 405nm as a light source with 8mm optical fiber to guide the beam, also used chlorophyll as photosensitizer. Diode lasers energy exposures used with and without chlorophyll at the in vitro photodynamic inactivation test within 30 and 60 seconds. Data were analyzed using One Way Annova and Tukey HSD test (p <0.05). Result: The highest percentage of deaths occurred in the group treated 60 seconds with addition of chlorophyll photosensitizer and exposed by 405 nm diode laser (p=0.000) compared to the results obtained in the group without addition of the photosensitizer. Conclusion: Chlorophyll as photosensitizer after activated by diode laser 405nm effectively eliminates E. faecalis
