Abstract

Background: Gadget is one of the technological developments that use evenly on all ages, including children aged under 5 years. The use of gadgets on toddler kid cause less interested to interact with their surroundings or play with peers so as to interfere with the child's development process naturally. This research aims to study the relationship between the use of gadgets with the development of children aged 24-60 months. Methods: This study is an observational analytical study with cross sectional approach. The number of respondens were 66 people include children aged 24-60 months in Kelurahan Simomulyo Surabaya. Sampling was done with consecutive sampling. The independent variable in this study is the intensity of the use of gadget and the dependent variable is the development of children aged 24- 60 months. Results: Children with low intensity of the use of gadgets showed the normal result of the development checks, while the high intensity of the use of gadgets showed dubious result. The analysis result obtained p 0.000 and spearman correlation coefficient 0.521. These values indicate that there is a relationship between the intensity of the use of gadget with the development of children aged 24-60 months, with moderate strength and direction of the relationship is positive. Conclusion: The Midwife has an important role to perform an examination of the development on an ongoing basis and provide to parents about factors that influence the children development.
