Abstract

The purpose of this study was to know hepatoprotector potential of brown seawed (Padina australis) extract in alcohol induced mices. The research has been done on November, 20th 2017-January, 2th 2018 at Department of Veterinary Pathology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Airlangga University. Twenty five male mice (Mus musculus) aged 60 days with BW 25 g were used. These animals were divided into five group (K(-), K(+), P1, P2 and P3). K(-) were treated with CMC-Na 1 % 10 ml/kgBW, K(+) were treated with alcohol 50% 12 ml/kgBW and CMC-Na 1 % 10 ml/kgBW, P1 were treated with extract of brown seawed (Padina australis) 250 ml/kgBW and alcohol 50% 12 ml/kgBW, P2 were treated with extract of brown seawed (Padina australis) 500 ml/kgBW and alcohol 50% 12 ml/kgBW and P3 were treated with extract of brown seawed (Padina australis) 1000 ml/kgBW and alcohol 50% 12 ml/kgBW. This research has been conducted for 21 days to determine the toxic effect of alcohol on the liver. The data were compared using Kruskal-Wallis test and Mann-Whitney test. Stastistical comparisons were performed using SPSS v21.0 for windows. The research result showed the potential of brown seawed (Padina australis) extract effective dose 1000 mg/kgBW could protect hepatocyte in alcohol induced mices.
