Abstract

Hegemonic masculinity conditions the hierarchal gender binary in which masculinity dominates in social construction and it operates both in male and female individual. This problem mostly appears in superhero films in which the superheroes are portrayed in masculinity. In different, superheroes in the film Deadpool seem to deconstruct this hegemony, thus this research problematizes; how are the masculinity of the character Superhero, portrayed in the film Deadpool and how do the superheroes negotiate their masculinity in the film Deadpool. Therefore, the author uses film Deadpool as the object. To sustain it, it will be revealed through the Connell’s hegemonic masculinity is applied. The type of this research is qualitative, the method of the data analysis is narrative and non-narrative interpretation. Based on that, it is resulted that hegemonic masculinity in the film Deadpool is disrupted, both male and female superheroes are exposed in both masculine and feminine attribution. There is no superhero exposes the masculinity dominantly, there must be feminine part inside of the masculinity, especially in the character Deadpool. Thus, this shows that there is negotiate of masculine superheroes in this film.
