Abstract

Tourism is an activity when aperson travels from their place to another place for some purposes but not more than a year. Talking about tourism means that we are talking about how every city and every country in this world developing their touriam. In this case, English as an international language has some funtions in tourism industry. Department of Tourism Yogyakarta City is responsible for all matters that related to tourism of the city.This final report was aimed to discover the functions of English in Department of Tourism Yogyakarta City and also the problems of using English language during their activities based on the writer's experiences during her internship. The final report using the journal of the function of English in tourism industry, the importance of English for the employee, and the writer's experience and her reult of her observation while doing the internship. The result of this final report showed that English still has functions in Department of Tourism Yogyakarta City's activites such as correspondence and promotional activities.The result also found that Department of Tourism Yogyakarta City has a problem regarding their activities to promote Yogyakarta using English Language. Department of Tourism Yogyakarta City lacks of personnel who are fluent in English, both written and spoken because their target market are local and foreign tourists.
