Abstract

High temperatures lead to oxidative stress which can decrease the number of leydig cell, sertoli cell and spermatogenic cell. Watermelon rind have an ability for antioxidant effect that can reduce decline of leydig cells, sertoli cells, and spermatogenic cell from free radicals. This study aimed to determine the effect of extract of watermelon’s rind on the number of leydig cell, sertoli cell and spermatogenic cell of male rat exposed heat temperature. This experiments used rats as animals experiment with five treatments and four repetitions. Five treatments were : P0: without exposured to 40oC of temperature and without treatment by extract watermelon’s rind, P1: was exposured to 40oC of temperature and without treatments by watermelon’s rind, P2 : was exposured to 40oC of temperature and treatments by extract watermelon’s rind dosage 100 mg/kgBB, P3 : was exposured to 40oC of temperature and treatments by extract watermelon’s rind dosage 200 mg/kgBB, P4 : was exposured to 40oC of temperature and treatments by extract watermelon’s rind dosage 400 mg/kgBB, the treatment was done for 52 days. The results, extract watermelon’s rind can maintain the amount of sertoli cell and spermatogenic cell of male rat exposed heat temperature.
