Abstract

This study was conducted to know the effect of red dragon fruit skin extract (Hylocereus polyrhizus) on the number of Leydig cells, seminiferous tubule diameter and testicular weight of male mice (Mus musculus) exposured with hot temperatures. Twenty male mice were divided into five groups and given with different treatments for 36 days. Treatment for negative control were given with CMC-Na 1% solution. Treatment for P0, P1, P2, and P3 were exposured with hot temperatures 40°C in 45 minutes. After that, groups P1, P2, and P3 were given with dragon fruit skin extract in suspensator CMC-Na 1% with each dose of 250mg/kgBW for P1, 500mg/kgBW for P2, and 1000mg/kgBWfor P3. Observation of samples using microscopic examination using Olympus CX-22 and analyzed with One Way ANOVA statistical test and continued with Duncan's Multiple Range Test using SPSS 23 for Windows. The results showed that red dragon fruit skin extract (Hylocereus polyrhizus) can maintain the number of Leydig cells, seminiferous tubule diameter, and testicular weight of male mice (Mus musculus) exposed with hot temperatures. The best dose in this study is 500mg/kgBW.
