Abstract

This study aimed to synthesize and characterize of carbon dots (CDs) originating from ascorbic acid as biomedical applications. This material could be used for a cancer biomarker. The synthesis used microwave radiation as heating source with time variations. The results showed that the best sample had ± 2 nm and the highest fluorescence intensity which was microwave-irradiated for 3.30 minutes. This sample was conjugated with folic acid (FA) which had functional groups that indicated CDs and folic acid. The result of the cytotoxicity test showed non-toxic doses were 0.6 μM CDs; 0.6 and 6 μM CDs – FA. The best dose was used to cell targeting imaging to bladder cancer cell – line. The explanations about characterizations would be discussed on discussion chapter.
