Abstract
Company often use disclosure as a strategy to communicate and transfer selected information to stakeholders. Then, this strategy become an important information for stakeholders to reduce the information asymmetry. This paper investigate the association between textual disclosure strategy and cost of debt. This research is conducted using 1596 samples of Indonesian listed companies from all industries, except financial industry for period of 2010-2017. This research uses Cross-sectional ordinary least square (OLS) to test research hypotheses. The result of the tone and the readability of the Management Discussion and Analysis (MD&A) report analysis shows that negative tone is positively related to cost of debt, and the readability level also positively related to cost of debt. More negative tone used and less readable report charged higher cost of debt by the creditor. This paper contributes to the textual disclosure research. Specifically on how the creditor value the readability of the report and how important textual disclosure strategy is for companies.
