Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between social support on suicide tendency in Teenagers. Social support is defined as transactional relationships between individuals carried out in various ways. Suicide is defined as all kinds of behaviors and thoughts related to suicide, whether suicide is completed, attempted suicide, suicidal thoughts, or any communication related to suicide. The definition of social support used in this study refers to the definition conveyed by Zimet, et al (1988) and the definition of suicide tendency stated by Bridge, Goldstein, & Brent (2006). This study took samples of Surabaya teenagers aged 13-18 years with total 363 people. Data is obtained using survey methods. The scale was adopted from Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) designed by Zimet., et al. (1988) and A Multi-Attitude Suicide Tendency Scale (MAST) designed by Orbach, Milstein, & Har-Even (1991). Data analysis using the Spearman rank correlation test with IBM SPSS 22.0. Hypothesis test results show there is a significant relationship between social support on suicide tendency in teenagers.
