Abstract

Instalation unit of Sugar Mill Kremboong is dominated by static work so that potential to develop musculoskeletal disorders moreover if it’s done with awkward posture with long duration. The purpose of this research was to study about factors that related to musculoskeletal disorders in instalation workers at Sugar Mill Kremboong, Krembung, Sidoarjo. This was an observational descriptive research that used primary and secondary data. Respondents were 30 workers of the instalation unit. Variables in this research were respondents’s characteristic (age, gender, smoking and sport habit), ergonomic risk factors (static work, repetitive motion and awkward posture), duration of doing ergonomic risk factors and musculoskeletal disorders’s complaint. Results showed most of the respondent (86,7 %) felt the complaint of musculoskeletal disorders especially on legs with moderate level. Most of the respondent with this complaint were at > 50 years old, has smoking (87 %) and sport habit (92,3 %) with static work followed by awkward posture (100 %) with long duration (100 %). Based on the result above it is recommended that the company’s management direct respondents to use the rest time for doing stretching about 15 minutes after 2 hours work, doing aerobic sport like jogging, swimming, walking and cycling. Then, need to held an education or training to their workers about the right posture at work to prevent musculoskeletal disorders
