Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the maternal antibody in terms of Infectious Bronchitis (IB) and Infectious Bursal Disease (IBD) immunoglobulin Y (IgY) levels in newly-hatched chicks at the spread of hatching time. Ninety samples of residual yolk sac from newly-hatched chicks taken from three different hatch window group (HW): HW 1 (3323h before pull chick); HW 2 (2313h before pull chick); and HW 3 (13h before pull chick) were used in this study. Indirect ELISA method was performed to measure IB and IBD antibody titer. The values of IB and IBD titer were statistically analyzed using TwoWay ANOVA followed by LSD test. The result of this study indicated that there was no statistically significant difference (p>0.05) between the three hatch window groups (HW 1, HW 2 and HW 3), but there was statistically significant difference (p<0.05) between the machines used. However, HW 2 chicks group showed the lowest level of antibody, meanwhile HW 3 chicks group showed quite high. It can be concluded that the hatch window period did not significantly affect yolk sac IB and IBD maternal antibody titer, and that the machines used in this study significantly affected yolk sac IB and IBD maternal antibody titer.
