Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease that characterized by elevated blood sugar levels because pancreas can not produce enough insulin. People with diabetes mellitus who looked at the negative condition need to be reviewed in a psychological perspective. Factors related to the subjective wellbeing values of people with diabetes mellitus need to be known and improved as a first step to exercise positive control over themselves.. Method: This research used cross sectional design. Respondents were selected from five public health center in Surabaya which consists of Asemrowo, Kedungdoro, Klampis Ngasem, Jagir, and Tanah Kalikedinding public health center. Selection of respondents by using random sampling method with inclusion and exclusion criteria. Total sample are 102 respondents with Diabetes mellitus. Data were collected using a demographic questionnaire, personality questionnaire, and subjective well-being questionnaire. Furthermore, the data were analyzed using Rank Spearman test with significance level < 0,05. Results: The result showed that 81 respondents were female sex, aged 46-55 years and married. There are related significant between subjective well-being and personality (ρ=0,008), demographic factors which include family support (ρ = 0.011), and religiosity (ρ = 0.029). While contextual and situational factor (ρ = 0,636), and demographic which include sex (ρ = 0,613), and employment status (ρ = 0,414) are not correlated with subjective well-being of patient with diabetes mellitus in Surabaya area. Conclusion: Many factors related to subjective well-being of patient with diabetes mellitus. Further research can use the respondent with a larger area and use more varied instrument to get the other factor.
