Abstract

Ptyas korros or commonly called Indo China Rat Snake is one of the snakes that are still being hunted in Indonesia. The people believe that Ptyas korros bones can be used as traditional medicine. It is not safe to consuming wild animal due to the risk of disease transmission from animal to human, called zoonotic disease. One of the zoonotic disease is sparganosis. Sparganosis caused by plocercoid larvae from Spirometra. Spirometra is flat worm from Dyphillobothriidea family. The life cycle requires 3 host that are 2 intermediate host and 1 definitive host. Spargana could infected subcutan, musculus, pulmo, eye, breast, and nervous system. Sparganosis case in Indonesia infected eye, digestive system, and pulmo This study aimed to study and identify Spirometra in Ptyas korros in Sidoarjo. The study used 18 animals. The animals were sampled within 3 months. Identification was carried out using the native method, Semichen Acetic Carmine staining, and Hematoxillin Eosin that was carried out in the laboratory of the Parasitology Department of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Universitas Airlangga. The result showed that eight animal were positively infected with spargana from Spirometra. All sparganas were found in subcutaneous tissue. The spargana that has been find was having 6-12 cm length, wider scolex than strobila, and segment shape which characterized as cestoda. The study showed that there was spargana in Ptyas korros in Sidoarjo and no adult Spirometra was found.
