Abstract

Presence of lead in the aquatic systems has become a serious problem because it has a harmful effect on human. Therefore, an adsorbent material is needed to decrease lead concentration from contaminated water. Lead can be detected by Flame Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (FAAS) method. The removal of lead ions from aqueous solution using Shorea leavis L. powder as the adsorbent was reported in this paper. The aims of this experiment were obtain the optimum mixing time and adsorbent concentration to decrease lead concentration. The result showed maximum Pb ion concentration was decreased after 30 minutes mixing time and optimum concentration of adsorbent was 1.5% b/v. It is concluded that adsorbent prepared from Shorea leavis L. powder can be utilized for the treatment of heavy metals in water.
