Abstract

Subchronic toxicity test of etil p-metoksisinamat (EPMS) Fraction of Kaempferia galanga L. was done to know the subchronic toxicity effect on rat with the parameter of toxicity including clinical chemistry (SGOT, SGPT, BUN, creatinine, total protein, and electrolyte), hematology (hemoglobin, platelets, and leukocyte), and histopathology of liver and kidney. Subchronic toxicity test was done for 90 days in four groups of rat. Each group consist of 10 male and 10 female rats. The test samples was given orally in CMC Na 0,5 % suspension, with the appropriate dose in every groups. One group is control which was given CMC Na 0.5 % suspension without ethiyl p-methoxycinnamate fraction of Kaempferia galanga L. Three other groups were given CMC Na 0.5 % suspension with ethiyl p-methoxycinnamate fraction of Kaempferia galanga L. which equivalent to 3.24 mg EPMS/200g BW rat; 9.72 mg EPMS/200g BW rat; and 16.2 mg EPMS/200g BW rat. The rats ware weighed every week for adjustment of dose. At the end of treatment, all rats ware sacrificed by anesthesia with ether. The examination of clinical chemistry parameters (SGOT, SGPT, BUN, creatinine, total protein, and electrolyte), hematology parameters (hemoglobine, trombocyte, and leokocyte), and histopathology of liver and kidney from the rat was done. Data was analyzed with 95 % degree of One-Way ANOVA, Independent-Samples T Test and Kruskal Wallis. From result, the difference between the test and control groups were stastically not significant. Except on Mg2+, eusinofil and stab neutrofil which significant lower than other groups. But that level is still on physiological range. So that it can be concluded that ethiyl p-methoxycinnamate fraction of Kaempferia galanga L. which equivalent to 1.08 mg EPMS/200g BW rat; 3.24 mg EPMS/200g BW rat; and 5.40 mg EPMS/200g BW rat didn’t caused subchronic toxicity on rat with SGOT, SGPT, BUN, creatinine, hemoglobin, thrombocyte, leukocyte, and histopathology of liver and kidney as the parameters of subchronic toxicity
