Abstract

The aim of this study was to observe the characterization dosage form and release of diclofenac sodium with w/o microemulsion system from carbomer 940 gel base. Microemulsion contained ratio surfactant span80-tween80 and cosurfactant isopropanol 5:1. Diclofenac sodium gel with emulsion was used as control. The evaluation included characteristic (organoleptis, pH, and spreadability) and also diclofenac sodium release test from gel base of each formula. Data from pH test,speadability,spread diameter of zero load,and flux were evaluated based on independent sample t test with degree of confident 95% (α = 0,05).The result showed that microemulsion system in gel base(formula I)showed thicker consistency than emulsion in gel base (formula II).Data analyze showed that pH of formula I was 5,99 ± 0,01 and formula II was 5,97 ± 0,03. Spreadability of formula I was 0,009 ± 0,004 and formula II was 0,035 ± 0,015. Spread diameter of zero load for formula I was 4,70 ± 0,17 and formula II was 11,23 ± 1,05.Natrium diclofenac release test was carried out with cel diffusion using celophan membrane in phosphate saline buffer 7,4 ± 0,05, temperature 32oC, 100 rpm within 8 hours. The result of diclofenac sodium realease study is flux, which counted from slope of linear regression between √t versus the cumulative amount of natrium diclofenac in formula I and formula II were 32,40 ± 0,98 μg/cm2/min1/2 and 59,69 ± 1,95μg/cm2/min1/2. Research result revealed that natrium diclofenac release in microemulsion (Span 80 – Tween 80 - isopropanol)system from Carbomer gel was lower than release of natrium diclofenac from emulsion system.
