Abstract

Antimalarial Activity In Vitro Screening of 80% Ethanol Extract of Eucalyptus globulus, Acmena acuminatissima, Ardisia sp., Cestrum calysinum, and Calliandra portoricensis In an attempt to search for new antimalarial drugs, five plants were screened for their antimalarial activities. In the present study, 80% ethanol extract obtained from Eucalyptus globulus, Acmena acuminatissima, Ardisia sp., Cestrum calysinum, and Calliandra portoricensis were tested in vitro against Plasmodium falciparum 3D7 at incubation time 48 hours. The result showed that E. globules extract, A. acuminatissima extract, and Ardisia sp. extract were active as antimalarial agent with IC50 value 1 μg/ml<10 μg="" ml,="" 1.85="" and="" 5.06="" respectively.="" c.="" portoricensis="" extract="" were="" found="" to="" have="" a="" weak="" antimalarial="" activity="" with="" 10="" ml=""<100="" ml.="" calysinum="" was="" inactive="" as="" agent="" ic50="">100 μg/ml. <10>
