Abstract

HPLC has been the most popular choice for determination of food addictives. The objective of this study is to validate HPLC analytical method for simultaneous determination of sodium saccharin, aspartame, sodium benzoate in soft-drink by using monolithic column. The result showed that optimum chromatographic separation for these compounds takes place when an aqueous solution containing 0,1 M phosphate buffer pH 4,0 ± 0.05 and methanol (75:25) as the mobile phase at a flow rate of 1.5 mL min−1, using a Chromolith® Performance RP 18e column and UV detection at 220 nm. Good separation were obtained within 6 minute run-time. The method was validated for selectivity, linearity, accuracy, precision. Linearity calibration curve showed linear response over the range of concentration used (between 40 mg L-1 and 140 mg L-1). Average recovery and RSD of sodium saccharin, aspartame, and sodium benzoate in soft drink were 98,84±1,07, RSD = 1,08%; 100,53±1,56, RSD = 1,55%; 100,92±1,37, RSD = 1,36%. To ensure assay precision, within day repeatability (n=10) were assessed at 3 concentration levels. The precision of each compound for both retention time and peak area were obtained % RSD < 2%. The analysis of the obtained results can demonstrate that the proposed method is useful to determination of sodium saccharin, aspartame, and sodium benzoate in soft drink with time and cost efficient.
