Abstract

Orally Disintegrating Tablet (ODT) is oral dosage form that can disintegrate rapidly. ODT which is prepared by freeze drying method has some advantages because these method produced porous tablet. Paracetamol often used in pediatric patient as antipiretic, but pediatric patient usually have difficulties in swallowing tablet. To solve that problem, in this study paracetamol were prepared in ODT by freeze drying method. Each tablet contains 120 mg paracetamol. This study aims to determine the influence of gelatin as binder on physical characteristic (hardness, friability, disintegration time) and dissolution of paracetamol ODT with Polyplasdon XL-10 10% as disintegrant. The result showed that increasing gelatin concentration increased tablet hardness and disintegration time but reduced the friabilty of tablet and had no effect on dissolution profile (ED30). Tablet containing gelatin 2% gave greatest mechanical strength, but still disintegrate less than 60 seconds.
