Abstract

Gastric ulcer, also called stomach ulcer, is a damage in the normal gastric mucosa integrity that extends through the muscularis mucosa into the submucosa or deeper. Stres was reported as one of factors causing gastric ulcer. The aim of this research was to investigate the effect of antidepressant fluvoxamine which given after stress on gastric mucosa’s ulcer area, intraluminal bleeding and PPAR-γ mRNA expression. Mice were divided into eight groups. 24 hours before stress induction, mice were fasted from food. To induce stress, mice were restrained in 50 ml syringe along with immers in water for 6 hours. Fluvoxamine 100mg/kg was orally administered on 30 minutes after stress, and then mice were sacrificed at 0, 6 and 18 hours after stress. This study showed that fluvoxamine has delay effect on ulceredgastric mucose healing process when given after stress. At six hour after stress, vehicle but not fluvoxamine groups showed significant healing. Meanwhile, at 18 hours after stress, both vehicle and fluvoxamine groups showed similar healing. Interestingly, the level of PPAR-γ mRNA only increased drastically on fluvoxamine group at 18 hours after stress.
