Abstract

Since the development and knowledge about male contraception pills from Justicia Gendarussa burm.f.’s leaf extract keep advancing, the availability of raw materials with high quality are also really needed. High quality raw materials are observed from their metabolites, such as their contents of protein and their activity of kinase enzyme. First, the aim of this research is to isolate the protein using electrophoresis method SDS-PAGE. The isolation was done at three parts of the leaves, the base, the middle and the tip. Protein level resulted from isolation of these three parts were: base: 23.9 mg/mL; middle: 21.8 mg/mL; tip: 32.0 mg/mL. These levels were obtained using nanodrop method. Afterwards, the result from running the one dimension electrophoresis indicated that the protein band with molecular weight 21.59 kDa ± 0.70 always appeared in those three leaves parts. The average result from kinase activity test of protein with molecular weight 21.59 kDa ± 0.70 base, unit and tip part of leaves were 69.251 unit; 66.071 unit; and 58.916 unit respectively.
