Abstract

Microparticles of theophyllin were prepared by emulsification ionic-gelation method using chitosan as polymer and triployphosphate sodium (TPP ) as cross linker. This studies were performed to investigate the effect of pH tripolyphosphate solution on physical characteristics(morphology, particle size and drug content) and release profile of teofilin-chitosanmicroparticles. The TPP solution was adjusted to pH 4 (F1), pH 5 (F2) and pH 6 (F3). The result showed that microparticles with TPP solution pH 6 (F3) has most spherical shape with smoothest surface on microparticles. The average of particle size are F1 = 1.210,0 µm; F2= 1.100,8 µm; F3 = 1.205,1 µm. Drug content of microparticles was 31,30±0,58 - 34,61±0,08%. The release profile indicated that microparticles formed with TPP solution pH 6 had slowest release.
