Abstract

Ten Streptomyces sp. isolates were obtained fr om compost soil of Rumah Kompos Bratang in Surabaya. Six isolates, identity codes Streptomyces A, C, F, Ep, G and I, were detected having antib acterial activity. The aims of this study were to obtain both profile and antibacterial potency ratio of Streptomyces A, C, F, G, Ep and I against Salmonella typhi compared with Chloramphenicol as standard antimicrobial substance. The result showed, fermentation broths of Streptomyces A, F, G demonstrated inhibitory potency star ting from the first day of incubation. Streptomyces C and I showed inhibitory pote ncy starting from second day of incubation. Whereas, Streptomyces Ep had negative inhibitory potency against Salmonella typhi . Peaks of antimicro bial potency of Streptomyces A, I, C, F and G were showed on the 4 th , 4 th , 8 th , 8 th and 7 th days of incubation respectively. Each fermentation broth with maximu m antimicrobial potency were used to obtain antimicrobial potency ratios of Streptomyces A, I, C, F and G compared with choramphenico l. The 3 rd edition of Indonesian Pharmacopeia method was used to calculated antimicrobial potency ratio. Antimicrobial potency ratio of Streptomyces A, C, F, G and I isolates compared with chloramphenicol obtained were 98,09%, 98,69%, 101,21%, 99,36%, 101,56%, respectively.
